Gait Analysis with Ankle Arthrodesis Shoes during Level Walking and Stair Climbing

چکیده
INTRODUCTION Arthrodesis of the ankle is an established operation. The lack of normal ankle movement after ankle arthrodesis reduced the ability of the patients to walk smoothly on the arthrodesis foot. It would have a more profound effect in negotiating stairs, because large ranges of dorsiflexion and plantarflexion are required to accomplish this activity. Although gait characteristics have been reported for this population during level walking [1-3], little information is available regarding the compensations required for stair ambulation. In addition, only a limited number of scientific studies on the biomechanics of normal stair climbing are available in the literature [4-10]. We hypothesize that the special-design shoes will benefit these patients. To examine the effect of the ankle arthrodesis shoe, an understanding of the in-shoe plantar pressures and kinematics of the foot with the ankle arthrodesis shoe during stair climbing is necessary. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the gait parameters and in-shoe plantar pressures during level walking, stair climbing and stair descending with the help of healthy volunteers so that the effect of the modified shoe for the foot with ankle arthrodesis could be assessed.

Lower extremity kinematics and kinetics during level walking and stair climbing in subjects with triple arthrodesis or subtalar fusion.
The purpose of this study was to identify the kinematic and kinetic strategies used by patients with unilateral triple arthrodesis or subtalar fusion during level walking, stair ascent, stair descent and to determine the influence of these different conditions on kinematics and kinetics. Nine subjects with unilateral triple or subtalar fusion and five normal control subjects were recruited for ...
متن کاملThe influence of footwear on functional outcome after total ankle replacement, ankle arthrodesis, and tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis.
BACKGROUND Gait analysis after total ankle replacement and ankle arthrodesis is usually measured barefoot. However, this does not reflect reality. The purpose of this study was to compare patients barefoot and with footwear. METHODS We compared 126 patients (total ankle replacement 28, ankle arthrodesis 57, and tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis 41) with 35 healthy controls in three conditions (b...
متن کاملStair ascent and descent at different inclinations.
The aim of this study was to investigate the biomechanics and motor co-ordination in humans during stair climbing at different inclinations. Ten normal subjects ascended and descended a five-step staircase at three different inclinations (24 degrees, 30 degrees, 42 degrees ). Three steps were instrumented with force sensors and provided 6 dof ground reactions. Kinematics was analysed by a camer...
متن کاملThe Effect of Lumbar Disc Herniation on Musculoskeletal Loadings in the Spinal Region During Level Walking and Stair Climbing
BACKGROUND People with low back pain (LBP) alter their motion patterns during level walking and stair climbing due to pain or fear. However, the alternations of load sharing during the two activities are largely unknown. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of LBP caused by lumbar disc herniation (LDH) on the muscle activities of 17 main trunk muscle groups and the intradis...
متن کاملThe relationship of lower-extremity muscle torque to locomotor performance in people with stroke.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Improved walking is a common goal after stroke. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the torque generated by the muscles of both lower extremities and 2 locomotor tasks: gait on level surfaces and stair climbing in people who had strokes. SUBJECTS Twenty community-dwelling individuals (mean age=61.2 years, SD=8.4, range=52-82) who had stroke...
